Saturday I left Fort Simpson at 7:30 am and started my trek 1440 km to Edmonton. Of course the roads weren't plowed and I couldn't see the one's that were due to the blowing snow. Traffic varied from 60km/h to 140km/hr and I finally made it to Edmonton at 9:30pm. I watched 2 cars slide into the ditch and I saw a few more that had been there for some time and their drivers had already been rescued.
Sunday was spent shopping for last minute things I need for the trip. New sandals, a different day pack, etc. Melanie is hanging out with me tonight and driving me around tomorrow since Albert took my truck out to the farm this morning for safe keeping until I get back in May. Tomorrow I hope to get a hair cut, pick up my USD's for the trip, and impatiently wait for the time to head to the airport. My flight is at 7:30pm but I plan to be there by 5pm so Mel can drive home before dark.
I have a driver waiting to pick me up at the airport in Cairo where I'm overnighting since my flights got changed. The hotel offered to give me a car and driver for Wednesday until my next flight but I feel guilty checking out the sights without Lionel. We'll be back in Cairo in April so I'll just check out the Egyptian Museum, work on my tan and sleep as much as possible.
Join me as I travel through South Africa, Zambia, Botswana, Namibia, Malawi, Tanzania, Kenya, and Egypt. Try to keep up!
