Cape Town to Nairobi Day 16 Okovango Delta Day 2

UGGHHH!! These early mornings might actually kill me!! At 6 we were woke up for a quick breakfast then back in the boats to head to a different island within the Delta for our “Nature Walk”. Within about 20 minutes our guide, KT, told me he could smell elephants about a mile and a half away. Within about 20 minutes we could see a big bull elephant in a clearing. KT was goood!! So we tried to sneak up on it, but onroute KT spotted another bull in the trees eating and he was much closer so we focused our attention on him. We snuck as close as we dared and got some great shots. Another group got a little closer than we did and ended up being chased off by the bull. I talked to them after and they said their guide just said “Lets Go”, and he bolted, leaving his 6 tourists standing there peeing their pants, lol!

4 hours trecking though grasslands and woodlands in 35 degrees can be tough work! So we got back in our boats and went back to camp for an after noon of sleeping, reading, swimming, and whatever we wanted for about 5 hours. At sunset they put us back in the boat and took us for a sunset Mokoro ride to a pond where we found 2 Hippos. We sat and watched them for about an hour then headed back to camp.

We had a quick supper, followed by some traditional songs from our camping group. It was so surprisingly emotional for me I had tears in my eyes as I realized how extrodinary this trip is and how blessed I have been to be able to be here.  Ya, Ya, I’m a big baby deep down in side!

After they did about 6 songs for us we gave them a performance as well. Nothing like theirs, I’ll admit!! We refurbished Old McDonald’s Farm into Old McKarma’s (the Boswana President) Delta. We did Elephants, Lions, Hippos, Zebras, and Giraffe’s. Then we followed it up with The Hokey Pokie. I think it’s one of those things so funny that you had to be there to really get it.
