Cape Town to Nairobi Day 18 Chobe

Along our drive we saw baboons and elephants right along side of the road!

Once we reached Chobe I signed up for a 2 ½ hour river cruise/safari. Although we started out with a downpour for the first half hour things really picked up once the rain let off. First we saw elephants, then hippos, various Impala and Kudu, a few small crocs, and a bunch of cool birds. It was well worth the $55 USD or 210 Pula (Botswana $$)! All I was missing was a six pack or a thermos of coffee and Bailey’s. It was pretty wonderful!

Today is our last day in Botswana. It feels like we didn’t spend much time here, but I suppose it was a full week. Tomorrow we will be in Zambia. Apparently the border crossing involves crossing the Chobe River by ferry which is the country divide and can take up to 3 hours due to line ups and broken down ferry’s. Regardless, I should be in some sort of civilization by early afternoon tomorrow and although I spend 4 nights there I don’t think I’ll have a lot of spare time. I have “Booze Cruise” with the group since 8 or 9 are ending their trip in Livingstone/Victoria Falls and a Last Supper with them the following night (we’ll see if I still like them after the Booze Cruise). I also plan to ride elephants, track Lions and Rhinos, possibly whitewater raft or swim in the Devil’s Pool above the falls if open, do laundry, and catch up with what the world has been up to.
